Poor longevity

The ice maker worked well for 9 months. After that, I could not keep it from going into Defrost mode.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

While we’re glad the ice maker initially worked well for you, we truly hate to hear you are now having an issue with the Opal going into Defrost mode and not working properly. We know this must have caused frustration, and this isn’t the great ownership experience we want to provide for you.
Resetting the Opal by disconnecting it from power for 3 to 4 hours can resolve some issues. We hope that may help, but if necessary you can reach out to our Opal Support Line at 1-866-907-6718 or online at myopalservice.com ; they would be glad to assist with resolving this problem for you.

This machine works amazing, it produces a lot of ice and the water reserve holds a good amount of water so you don’t have to constantly fill it. You should check cabinet height if you plan on putting it under a cabinet, it’s pretty tall and was really close to our upper cabinets

The Opal 2.0 is a real investment—a bit expensive, somewhat heavy, and requiring frequent cleaning—but we think it’s completely worth it! GE is telling the truth when they say, “This is the good ice!” The whole family loves the soft, crunchable ice nuggets—as do our guests. We highly recommend the 2.0 model—quieter, easier to use, and seems more reliable.

We use the icemaker constantly during the day, even more than expected, and are thankful we ordered the side reservoir to keep the ice levels full for whenever we go to grab another cup of ice. One of our most-used and favorite kitchen appliances!
