Nipples are horrible and baby can’t get milk put

The old style natural nipples were great but these new natural response ones are terrible. My newborn baby sucks and sucks on a level 4 nipple and get 10ml out in 20 minutes. She loves the wide nipple but becomes so frustrated with her inability to get milk out.

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your review with us. We're sorry to hear about your experience with the Philips Avent Natural Response Baby Bottle. We've designed our new nipple to mimic breastfeeding, allowing your baby to drink, swallow, and breathe naturally.
Milk only flows when your baby actively drinks, which means they’re always in control of the flow and can feed and pause comfortably.
If your baby is already used to the previous Natural nipple, or even another traditional bottle, they may need a higher nipple flow in the Natural Response nipple because they are used to milk flowing quickly with less effort.
It may be difficult for them to adjust to it at first, so try introducing the bottle when your baby is calm.
The Natural Response teat is available in teat flows 1 to 6. Teat 6 is more suitable for thicker liquids or babies who want a fast flow.
If the issue persists, please get in touch via Social Media. We’re available on Facebook (@Philips) and X (@PhilipsCare). Don’t worry, if you don’t use Social Media, you can also reach out to us via the contact page: www.Philips.com/contact.
Best regards, Philips Consumer Care

Awful bottles. Nothing comes out. Tried 4 different flow sizes for 20+ minutes and didn’t go down at all. Stay away.

New natural response nipples are horrible.

We loved the old version of these bottles with the old natural nipple, but unfortunately the new nipples are unusable. Baby is breastfeeding well and bottle feeding well but she is unable to get anything out of the new natural response nipple. We pace feed with the old version and it typically takes her 20 minutes to finish 4-5 oz. After 15 minutes with the natural response nipples she is able to get about a half ounce. Please continue to offer the old nipples or consider redesigning the new version.

Hello,
Thanks for your comment and bringing this to our attention. We are sorry for this inconvenience, but we’d like to explain how our new design works. First, our new Avent Natural Response Nipple only releases milk when your little one actively drinks, in the same way that the breast does. So, when baby pauses to swallow or breathe, the milk flow pauses too. This helps to prevent drips and spills. Now, the new nipple 0m+ flow 2 corresponds to the old nipple 0m flow 0; new nipple 1m+ flow 3= old nipple 0m+ flow 1; new 3m+ flow 4= old nipple 1m+ flow 2, and new 6m+ flow 5= old nipple 6m+ flow 4.
Because no two babies are alike, Philips Avent Natural Response nozzles are available in different flow rates to suit your growing baby. If you any question, please reach out to us on Social Media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Philips ) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/philipscare). Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further.
Hope to speak to you soon!

New nipples are terrible

We recently bought these bottles for our 4 month old. We chose them because they seemed easy to keep clean. Unfortunately, the set we bought came with the “old” version of the nipples. We’ve only had them for 2 weeks and can’t find more of these nipples anywhere. We can only find the “new” version of them and they are terrible. We are using a fast flow at 4 months and it’s still taking my baby an hour or so to finish just a few ounces. So frustrating! If you are going to offer the “old” version with bottle sets, then you need to supply the replacement parts for them as well! Never buying avent bottles again and I’m so angry we’ve spent so much money trying to experiment with these “new” awful nipples.

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the new Avent Natural Response Nipples. We are sorry to hear of your upsetting experience and hope we can help improve things for you! The Philips Avent Natural Response Nipple only releases milk when your little one actively drinks, in the same way the breast does. When your baby pauses to swallow or breathe, the milk flow pauses too, while suckling allows the milk to flow easily. In this way your baby is in control and comfortable throughout the whole feed. Keep in mind that it can take a few attempts for your baby to adjust from a traditional nipple to the Natural Response Nipple and realize they can use the same pattern they use with breastfeeding when bottle feeding too. If you used the previous Natural nipple, your baby may need higher nipple flows with the Natural Response Nipple because they are used to more milk flowing quickly with less effort.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch with our dedicated Avent Parent and Child Care team on 1-800-542-8368. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further.

Not my favorite

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this baby bottle set to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I was looking forward to trying out these new bottles as my daughter was transitioning to formula. I loved the look, the wide nipple and soft feeling had me excited, unfortunately, my daughter didn’t like these bottles. It would take her twice as long to finish her bottle in comparison to our other bottles. I like that the bottles don’t leak, but even with a size 2 nipple, she was working hard to get the milk out, and was over it pretty quickly (her other bottles were only size 1, very strange). Overall, I like the look of the bottle, but they did not work well for us.

Baby refusing bottle with new nipple design
on February 1, 2022
Posted by: CKIP
My daughter was seamlessly switching between breast and bottle with the old style natural nipples since birth. Now that she is bottle fed only at 7 months, I bought a new set without realizing the nipples had changed. With the new design, she refuses the bottle altogether -- I've tried giving it to her for over a week and at different times with no success. When I switch to the old nipples, she drinks right away. The new bottles are more rigid and don't even feel like the old nipples. Very disappointed in the new design and even more disappointed that Philips doesn't even make the old nipples available for purchase at all. I wish they would at least offer the old style to purchase separately.

Hi,
Thanks for leaving a review regarding the new Avent Natural Response Nipples. We are sorry to hear that your daughter is still refusing the new design and can understand that this must be disappointing. The Natural Response Nipple has an innovative tip and opening which responds to the drinking motion of the baby’s tongue. This causes the slit to open and close, so milk is released only when baby is actively drinking, like at the breast. The flow rate of milk they get from the nipple is linked to how enthusiastically or steadily they drink as they develop. Enthusiastic drinkers use a strong suction and compression while drinking, resulting in greater milk flow, so they usually need a lower nipple flow from the Natural Response range (such as nipple number 1 or 2) to avoid overflow. Slow and steady drinkers are likely to prefer a higher nipple flow (such as nipple 4 or 5), to ensure enough milk flows, regardless of age. perfect for babies going between breast and bottle
on July 21, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We’ve actually been using this kind for the last 4 years, just not these specific ones so we are happy to give our opinion since we have lots of experience with them. These were the first bottle nipples we tried with all our kids & all of them have taken them with zero issues at all. These bottles were easy for each baby to take, they never had any problems with rejecting them or switching back and forth between breast & bottles. They are supper simple to assemble with only 3 pieces + a travel cap if you need it. Cleaning is very simple as well. We have washed by hand and dishwasher. I do appreciate that they are very simple to clean by hand if needed in a pinch. The shape of the bottle nipple seems very similar to mama’s & comes in a variety of flows to find what works for your baby. Our kids seemed to prefer the flow 1. The ergonomic shape made it easy for our babies to hold once they got old enough to hold themselves. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby bottle set.
