We purchased our Vitamix many moons ago. We have had to send it back twice for service, which the company completed quickly. Each time the problems were associated with the canister. It's like it was locking up and then putting drag on the motor. We would get this smell and then the motor would overheat. The second time we sent it back they sent us a new canister and it's worked well for almost a year. Well, it started doing it again last night. Also the knob for changing the speeds has also come loose. I have no doubt that I will contact Vitamix and they will make sure everything is right. I'm just a little nervous that we're closing in on the end of our warranty and once it's out of warranty we'll just be out of luck. We love having a Vitamix but I fear we've just gotten a bit of a lemon. We have always followed instructions carefully with our machine.. even babied it a bit because of it's weaknesses. Our friends purchased one right when we did and have never had the issues we've had. I still recommend this machine because it works beautifully. Just not sure about this model. Maybe the 750 is a better choice? Not quite so many issues with the canister.
Pros: Speed of Service, Texture Quality, Easy to use, Versatility, Recipe Enhancement, Power
my favorite model. I feel like the short containers have a tendency to make all the food go all over the container. The taller container has a better vortex and whatever you are blending just stays toward the bottom. Smoothies are smooth and velvety, not foamy.
Pros: Speed of Service, Texture Quality, Durability, Easy to use, Versatility, Power

Very Disappointed

This was supposed to last a lifetime, but it is making loud machine noises after only a few years. The only thing I ever blend is drinks, so there is no reason for it to be going bad now. I also hate that the container is plastic. It looks all scratched and ugly, and I'm sure there are microplastics in my food. I've stopped using it. I don't know why VitaMix does not sell a glass pitcher for their blender. This was awfully expensive for it to be breaking down already and for it to have plastic.

Disappointed!

I just bought this for someone with tube feeding and am really disappointed because her regular blender does a better job than this very expensive blender. The blended food can’t even go through the pump without beeping every second and you have to prime! Something the regular blender she uses hardly does!

Hi there! We are sorry to hear of your experience. Please call us at 1-800-848-2649, so we can troubleshoot and give blending tips, as you should have no trouble with a feeding tube using this unit.
I bought my Vitamix earlier this year to make real food blends for my son, who recently got a feeding tube. This blender was recommended to me by many moms on a Facebook page dedicated to people with feeding tubes and it has been amazing! I am able to blend just about anything smoothly enough to push it through a feeding tube. For example, I have blended raw carrots, cooked meat and raw fruit and all of it purées into a super smooth consistency. I have also started making fruit and veggie smoothies for myself using the recipe that came with the blender. I am extremely pleased and satisfied with this purchase and I highly recommend it.

7 Years and Counting

My 5200 has been used to make full carafe of bananas, nuts and seeds Close to every single day for over 7 years. I also use it to blend frozen bananas for ice cream, nuts for nut butters and various frozen fruit smoothies. I love it and it’s still performing beautifully.
Since my warranty (7year) expired I’ve toyed with jumping on one of the newer refurb sales that’s advertised regularity, as insurance for when Dies. But none of the reviews that I read for the newer, digital, models match the experience that I have had with the 5200. And as I look at the reviews for the 5200, the mirror my sentiments exactly. So instead of “” upgrading, when it is time to buy new one, I think I’ll stick with what worked for me for the last seven years and go with another 5200. I hope vita mix does not discontinue this model.
And I advise anyone looking to invest in a new machine to go with the 5200 and not be distracted by the current day bells and whistle’s. Who needs an app, who needs a detectable cop, you’ve got all the controls at your fingertips. Stick with what works

First time buyer! I’ve had it for a month or two, and so far it works very well for my needs. I am a novice smoothie-maker, and it took some time for me to find the proper liquid-to-frozen-solid ratio (I was using too little, and the smoothie would essentially seize up). Like any powerful tool, it takes some learning to unlock its potential. I’m excited to see where it takes me, in the realm of other smoothies, sauces, soups and more.
I will mention - at the beginning (and it still happens occasionally), the motor sounds and smells like it struggles. This is expected with a new one and is documented in the manual.
