We had an 18 year old Vitamix that we loved! I died a few months ago. Of course, we bought another Vitamix. However, we are having it shipped into to be looked at less than 9 months after buying it. It has a burning smell when using it, and it overheats when making things like black bean dip (using canned black beans). I thought the burning smell was due to it being new, but there continues to be a faint aroma. We purposely bought the more "basic" machine so that it would last longer. We have learned the things with more bells and whistles tend to break quicker. I am so incredibly disappointed in my new Vitamix. I don't understand how you can mess up such a good thing!

Hi! We are sorry to hear that you are not enjoying your new machine. To avoid overheating your machine in the future, be sure to ramp the machine up to the highest speed within five seconds of turning it on to activate the cooling fan in the motor. This will also give you the best blend in the quickest time. It is important to know that this new machine is more sensitive to overheating then your older one was, this is a safety feature for the protection of your machine. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love it!! I use it every day since I had received it as a Birthday gift from my husband several months ago. I make green, fruit, & kefir smoothies. Some days I make two or three different types of smoothies. Also made soups, sesame tahini {ingredient in Hummus}, and Almond butter. I'm looking forward to making many other things to enhance my familys health and food we eat. I feel good about the increased nutritional availability and digestibility of foods I make in it. 5200 is well thought out as far as how it works & materials used, such as the carafe being light weight food safe plastic. It's not heavy, cumbersome and more likely to break as glass. In the past I had a different brand blender which had a heavy glass carafe I found the glass to be more cumbersome and awkward to use. The plastic Vitamix carafe is easier to handle and clean. The pour spout is well shaped foods pour well and go right into whatever container I am pouring into, in my case it's mostly Ball Mason Jars. I also like the simplicity of this machine, and the fact that it's not digital. I did major studying before I chose 5200. I had read this was a favorite model of Americas test kitchen {TV show}. And I noticed one of my favorite TV chefs, Rick Bayless has this model I spotted the 5200 in his Chicago kitchen while watching his show. Additionally, I read countless reviews until my eyes burned. All my research seems to have paid off because I love my 5200.
Pros: Texture Quality, Durability, Easy to use, Versatility, Recipe Enhancement, Product features, Power
This is the 4th Vitamin 5200 I have purchased and it is different than the 1st 3. The motor is not as strong and it does not blend as well. I love Vitamix and need to contact customer service because this does not seem normal for the quality I have known them to have.

Hello! The 5200 has consistently used a 2.0 peak horsepower motor since its launch. If you are experiencing performance issues with your Vitamix, please call our customer care team at 1-800-848-2649, and they would be happy to assist you!
I used my Vitamix EVERYDAY! For breakfast, I blend a lemon or orange with 4 glasses of water; green smoothie for lunch, and salad dressing for dinner! It blends chia seeds, celery and leafy greens like kale and collards and frozen fruits like bananas, nice and smooth! We are vegans and I am raw vegan and the Vitamix has really enhanced our lifestyle! East to clean too! I wish we purchased it years ago! A standard blender does not compare! At first we were surprised that the container was plastic and not glass but after using it we were impressed and very satisfied! We highly recommend it to people who make green smoothies and dressings! A+!

I received my Vitamix as a present from my brother, who has been trying to motivate me to eat healthier. Boy, did it work! On average, I make something in my Vitamix about 1-2 times per week. In the past 4 days alone I've made 2 breakfast smoothies (each recipe lasts me 2 days), roasted red pepper alfredo sauce to top my favorite pasta dish, and last night I made gingered carrot orange soup for dinner that was a HUGE hit. All made right in the Vitamix with minimal prep work, and all much healthier than similar products I could have bought at the grocery. The fact that I can make so many different things with a single appliance means I'll be using it for a long time to come, and not be getting bored with my new healthy eating habits!
Pros: Healthy lifestyle, Versatile, Convenient, Easy to use, Blend quality
I've had two other Vitamix 5200s and they performed beautifully. Both were everything they should be for a high end blender. However, my new 5200 doesn't do the job. I've had a lot of experience making smoothies and this new Vitamix does fully blend fruit and veggies. I've tried a few smoothie variations with complete disappointment. I don't know whether the new container shape (48 oz) makes the difference or the machine itself. My older 5200 was better.

I would like to address the people who will read the review from the person who said that Vitamix has "overpromised and undersold". That is absolutely INCORRECT!! I have had my original Vitamix since the1990's and other then replacing the blades once in the original pitcher, have had no issues. The motor has never quit and I use it every day. My Vitamix is at least 25 years old and the motor is as strong and powerful as the day I bought it. It simply does not quit. I think it will puree a brick though I've never tried. I bought it when I was diagnosed with cancer and it helped me to change my lifestyle of eating habits and beat cancer. I eat a whole food diet and use it every day for either smoothies, sauces, dips, dressings, nut butters, nut milk, nut cheeses, you name it. I would never be without my Vitamix. It is by far the best tool in my kitchen!! No other blender even comes close to the Vitamix's power, durability and ability to transform food! For anyone who is contemplating buying one but is shy due to the price, BUY IT. You won't regret it! It will last you your lifetime!
