I used this when at my sister in laws house and had to have the same blender when we returned home. I have had many blenders in the past, but this is the first blender that can easily handle foods plus ice and pulverize it into a drinkable shake. Love it! I also don't have to put all the pieces in the dishwasher every time it is used...it's so easy to clean.

I bought 5200 Getting Started package after researching several tiers of blenders. Vitamix exceeded my expectations and then some. I have much more control over texture, and have already made several sauces, soups, dressings, and spreads in addition to daily smooties for my family. Sometimes I use it more than once a day. The machine is not working well. I followed the instruction but the smoothie is very coarse. With the green grape, I can even find lots of grape skin in the smoothie. With frozen berries, there are also big grains left in the smoothie.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
