Greatest Weedeater Ever

I purchased the weedear about 3 months ago. One of the lightest and easy to maneuver weedeaters I have used. Its very powerful and easiest to clean. Easy as heck to restring as well. I highly recommend the Greenworks 80v Weedeater!Pretty easy for a 67 y/o man to operate.

WOULD be 5 stars... if I could get parts

I generally LOVE this trimmer. It has done well with all the attachments I previously had for my gas trimmer, aside from the blower attachment. Hedge, edger, pole-saw, tiller... work great. My only problem is that the listed part for the spool cover (aka "bump knob") is "34108178A" in the manual - but NOBODY carries it (and it isn't even listed in Greenworks' parts directory. Therefore - it's life as a string trimmer is about to come to an abrupt halt :(

Bad Ergonomics; Very Heavy; Not for Small Users
on July 16, 2022

I am female, 5'4" of proper weight, very handy, and strong.
I've been using this for a few months.
PROS: Powerful, Good Battery Life. Same battery for the Greenworks lawnmower that I own (and like).
CONS: 1. Very heavy, not balanced well, awkward to use. The 80-V battery is installed at one end and it is much heavier than the trimmer head at the other end. I have adjusted the shoulder strap and handle multiple times and find this extremely heavy and awkward. Also, the trigger is too high up on the shaft for me to comfortably keep it engaged. I either end up with a strained shoulder or back or both. 2. Installing new cutting line is straightforward, but it is very hard to turn the spool cap if you have small hands.
OVERALL: This may be a good trimmer for someone who is larger. It isn't good for someone who is 5'4". I used a Black & Decker 18-V string trimmer for years. It was ergonomically fine for both myself and my friends who were taller. I do realize that an 18-V battery is much lighter than an 80-V, but the B&D string trimmer was much better balanced and more comfortable. No, it was not as powerful, but it was able to do the job.
RECOMMEND? Only to tall people.

So disappointed in weed eater

I haven't tried the blower yet, but the string weed eater was extremely disappointing. The only thing it can cut is grass, it is useless on the weeds, which is why I needed it in the first place.
Pros: Quiet

Hello Grammy,

We're sorry to hear you're unhappy with our Greenworks 80v string trimmer unit. This is one of our more powerful tools we have in our highest voltage line. It should be able to tackle a variety of different weeds and plants. However, it is not designed for brush. We would like to look into this issue in more detail with you as what you're describing is not a common issue with this unit. Please contact us at 1-888-909-6757 or through chat direct on our site. We're happy to help.

Fast Battery Recharge

The trimmer is a solid built. It would have been a 5 star if they have a lock-down system for the trigger-start after the trimmer started spinning. Because they don't have this lock-down system. It is very tiring on the hand constantly holding on the trigger-start while trimming. It would also been very helpful to list all attachments in the booklet that this trimmer could handle. But don't have this information. Left me in the dark, and I had to get the information from else where.

Good but with caveat
on July 27, 2020

I have a Greenworks hedge trimmer and leaf blower, like them both. I bought the model 2101202 string trimmer. It was not assembled by the factory properly - after I followed the install instructions and started the trimmer the trimmer head came off and went skittering down the driveway like a hockey puck, and into the woods. It took me a hour to find it. It didn't help that the instruction manual doesn't include an exploded diagram of how the retaining nut and collar, and I had to figure that out. One other negative: nowhere in the manual does it explain how to advance the string. Other trimmers I've owned needed to be bumped on the ground while running to depress the string head and loosen the string so it would feed outward. I suppose Greenworks feels anyone buying their product should already know this.

i bought this trimmer tool after purchasing the 60V brushless 21" Greenworks lawnmower.
its great not to be able to put gas, prime and pull start any longer. Just insert the battery and press to start.
