I knew before purchasing that there was no built-in screen protector, which surprised me because the Otterbox Defender series are known for their superior phone protection. However, I bought the defender case for my Note 8 anyways. After having my phone for a few days with the Otterbox, I have come to the conclusion that not having a built-in screen protector does actually leave the phone screen vulnerable. Even with the raised bevel - it wouldn't help if you were to drop your phone on a rocky surface. I love the Otterbox defender series. Always have. But I will be returning this case due to there not being a screen protector built-in like its predecessors. Hopefully Otterbox will design a new defender case for the Note 8 with the added screen protection.

I rely on Otter box for every phone I purchase and I have had dozens of phones.. After FINALLY receiving my otter box I was EXTREMELY disappointed that it had no built in screen protector, which is my main reason for buying it, there was no mention on the website that the screen protector was sold separately which is why I've decided to purchase it from another retailer...VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE OTTERS

This case does not have a face cover like the other ones. I was disappointed to find out that it does not. It still fits nice and snug around the phone and charging ports.

Case only locks into clip with screen facing out. When case is facing clip it pops out. This condition exists with or without phone in the case. Not a good product especially since there is no screen protector on the note 8 defender model.

You need to have a complete defender box and not just glass protection screen and box apart. The Defender box for Samsung galaxy mega 6.3 is excellent. The Defender case for Note 8 is useless without the screen.

Over the years I have purchased many Otterbox defender, commuter and symmetry cases. I do stand by the fact Otterbox has saved me in numerous occasions. I admit I am taken aback by the new screenless defender as now it cost even more to protect the phone due to needing a separate screen protector. And very hesitant to purchase a screen protector for $50 as I have yet to find one that actually holds up along with keeping touch sensitivity. The screen protection is what made the defender the cream of the crop especially when traveling to the beach, amusement parks etc. And I didn't mind if I had to press a little harder in my screen during this times as I had peace of mind.
I still like my new defender for the note 8 but I miss the built in screen protector that made me feel much safer with my phone. I prefer the all in one, there was a reason I had one for every phone I have owned, but know at least the sides and back are protected.... Although, now it is going to give many other companies an opening to give the otters a run for the money due to screenless protection.
Satisfied but a little hesitant still, time will tell.
