It seems to be adequate and should offer protection for my galaxy note 8. I haven't dropped it since receiving the case so that has not been tested. Installation was easy and straight forward. I do not like the access to the "S" pen that comes with the Note 8 it is very difficult to get the pen out of it's holster with the defender case installed. I thought it was a bit pricy compared with other phone cases.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

You need to have a complete defender box and not just glass protection screen and box apart. The Defender box for Samsung galaxy mega 6.3 is excellent. The Defender case for Note 8 is useless without the screen.

We apologize that you're feeling so let down by our screenless approach to the Galaxy Note 8 Defender series! We deliberately decided to do without the traditional built-in screen protector on this version in order to provide full access to the exquisitely curved infinity display. Any sort of integrated plastic could have caused hindrance with the screen, especially around the edges, which sounded like a frustration that we did not want our customers to experience. We're bummed to see that we already have a return processing in the system for you on this product, and we sincerely hope that this incident does not turn you away from OtterBox for good!
