[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this item because it does exactly what my gas mower does, plus it's lighter, and self propelled and has lights in front so I can cut grass in the dark and not wake up my neighbors. Comes with 2 batteries, a 80V 2.0 Amp hour, and a 80V 4.0Amp hour battery, with fast charger, rarely does it quit, my yard is approximately less than a 1/4 acre. On jackrabbit speed I get to hop to it, and turtle speed is s l o w.
We live in the mountains with a hillside in our backyard. Our first mower did a fine job on flat terrain, but I had to push it up the hill. We searched for a high quality, self-propelled mower and decided on Greenworks 80-volt. It has all the features we were looking for. Now it mows the hillside with ease, as I am able to hold the controls with one hand and walk comfortably along behind. It is now a "piece of cake" to mow! No sweat, literally.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not enough power to finish .35 acres.

I have had this mower for a month and a half so far and used it to mow my .35 acre lot 4 times so far. With both batteries fully charged, I have never been able to completely finish mowing my yard. The batteries are drained before I can finish. I need the batteries to last 4-5 more mins but they are drained before I can finish. I attempted to recharge the first battery to be drained while using the second battery. The drained battery sat on the charger for 15 mins but the red light on the charger apparently stayed on the entire time so it never gets charged. That may be a protective mechanism for the batteries but it means I will need a third battery in order to mow my lawn without taking a significantly long break from mowing. I also have tried rationing the use of self propelled but I still can finish mowing my lawn with the two 2.5ah batteries. Very glad I have not surrendered my gas powered mower yet.

Hello M_D_In_NC,
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear about the experience you have encountered with this product. Here are a few troubleshooting suggestions to check out. 1) When the battery is inserted, the light should begin flashing green to indicate the battery is charging. If this light is not igniting or is flashing red, this may indicate an issue and we would be interested in hearing more about this. If the light simply goes solid red, try removing the battery and unplugging the charger for about 10 minutes and place them both indoors in a room temperature setting, as this might indicate the battery is at the incorrect temperature to be charged. 2) Ensure that the battery has been fully inserted into the charger. Sometimes this requires a firm push into place to make sure that it has been properly seated. 3) Try resetting the charger. To do this, simply unplug it for approximately 10 minutes and then plug it back in and try reinserting the battery. If the charger has been plugged in for extended periods of time, this can sometimes cause the charger to malfunction. Should you continue to experience a problem with the battery and charger, please contact us at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). All we ask that you have access to the battery and charge so that we can complete troubleshooting with you and gather necessary unit information

My father purchased this for me when I purchased my first home, and it was working great, until, during my last mow of the season, it would not turn on anymore. I did the troubleshooting so I assume it is an issue with the start handle, but I have been unable to reach their customer service team.
Pros: Quiet

The specifications of battery lasting 60 minutes is false. I am lucky to get 15 minutes. I am very disappointed and would not recommend.

Hello Ryck11,
Thank you for your feedback! We are sorry to hear about your experience with this battery. Please know that the described run time is abnormal. When used with both batteries the runtime is up to 60 minutes depending on the load and condition of your lawn while in use (speed, terrain, unit height, grass height, and density). Please be aware that the more power being used from the lawn mower (i.e. lawn mower speed, terrain, grass height, density, etc.), the faster the battery charge will drain. We would be happy to investigate to see whether your run time would be considered average; please visit our website and use the customer contact page to send us a direct email.

Easy To Use

I bought this unit back in February and have used it for about 25 cuts so far. The set up was easy and the mower runs great. The battery charges quickly. The issue is with how clean, or not clean, the unit cuts. Not sure if it is the design of the deck, the blade or just not enough oomph but it leaves way too many blades uncut even when cutting at a snails pace and with a significant overlap. I thought that the 80 Volt would be powerful enough to lift all the grass for a nice clean cut but it does not.

Hello # A Cut Below,
Thank you for sharing your feedback! When the lawn is being cut uneven, this can indicate a few different things. The first being that the lawn itself is rough or uneven. However, if this is not the case then it is possible that the grass is too tall, or the cutting height is set too low for the type of grass. Try raising the cutting height and reduce walking speed in order to allow for a more effective cut and a proper discharge of the clippings. For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the total length of the grass. The average lawn should be approximately 1 1/2 to 2” (3.8 to 5 cm) long during cool months, and between 2" to 3 1/4" (5 cm to 8.3 cm) long during hot months. If you have tried these suggestions, try having a look underneath of the mower deck and ensure that there has been no damage to the motor shaft, fan, blade, blade washer/insulator or the bolt. If any of these parts have been damaged or thrown off balance this will result in an even cut and likely, a noticeable vibration while in use. I hate this mower when I try to go backward the wheels lock up. I have tried stopping the mower and pushing it forward, but the wheels still lock up. This has to be the stupidest thing Greenworks has done.

Response from greenworkstools.comBy Greenworks, May 27, 2024
Hello Archie 1776,
Thank you for your review. The self-propelled drive system with rear-wheel-drive and variable speed control on this unit has been designed for maximum traction, maneuverability, and control. Self-propelled mowers move under their own power, utilizing a dedicated propulsion motor or a geared transmission running of the main (blade) motor. This reduces the strain of pushing a heavy lawn mower, meaning bigger areas of lawn can be mowed more frequently as the operators are less fatigued. The wheels temporarily lock when the self-propel feature is not engaged for safety precautions, however with a slight push ahead the mower should engage the self-propelled feature right away and get you right back to mowing as desired. We are sorry to hear that your purchase fell below expectations, if you ever have any questions or warranty needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to Greenworks directly through chatbot on www.greenworkstools.com that will direct you to a live agent or call us at Greenworks Pro toll-free helpline at 1-855-345-3934.
