Great battery life, but rough on battery switching

I bought this over the winter, when there was a sale, and started using it for the spring, summer and now fall. I don't know why Greenworks asked me for a review in the dead of winter, shortly after I bought it. That made no sense to me, and I ignored their request. So I am reviewing now, after about six months of use.
First the good points:
The battery life is excellent. Early on in the spring when my grass was thick and growing fast I used a full battery, plus about a third to a half of the second battery for each cut. This is what I expected. In the summer and now in the fall when grass was/is not growing very fast, I used/use a full battery, plus a little of the second battery. I have no qualms with how long the batteries last on a full charge.
The mower cuts well and is easy to use. I like that the control levers are on both sides, so you can control it with your left or right hand.
Charging time is minimal. I have mine set so that the receptacle turns off two hours after I turn it on. This prevents overcharging.
Now the less than excellent points.
There is no way to turn the headlight on or off. It comes on when it thinks it needs to and shuts off when it thinks it is not needed. Bad design. I would prefer a switch. It switches on and off when it is getting dark but isn't really needed, as I move in and out of the remaining sunlight.
There is no way to tell the mower which battery to use first. I numbered my batteries and rotate them into the left position, so they both get (roughly) the same amount of use. I would prefer to always put them in the same position and flip a switch to tell the mower which battery to use first.
Now the bad points.
The speed of the mower varies as the battery discharges. They should have it configured to always be the same speed.
When the first battery is discharged, the second battery takes over, as designed. However, this means that the mower jumps to a faster speed (both cutting and moving). If you aren't ready for this you can easily be pulled off balance.
Replacement battery cost is way out of line. Greenworks price gouges you for replacement batteries. Either buy OEM batteries from a reseller or consider third party batteries.
Finally, be wary of warranty service. I have not used it on this item, but I did, or at least tried to, on another item. Greenworks refused to honor the warranty, because they said that (based on when I bought it) the warranty had changed. ALL of the documentation indicated the warranty should still have been in effect. They said that I bought "old stock."

Wow! Best mower ever!

This is the best lawnmower I have ever used! It’s light weight, quiet and can be pushed or self propelled. The most incredible aspect is that it doesn’t overheat and quit like a gas powered mower. The battery lasted long enough to complete the job! This has cut my mowing time by a third and has improved my language and lowered my blood pressure
Good specs and performance! Wide deck cuts time and twin blades works great! Just wish they made the wheels a bit wider, it lays down the grass and you lose about an inch each side.

Verified Purchase:Yes
I purchased the Pro 60V Brushless 25" Self-Propelled Lawn Mower 2/ 2 4.0AH Batteries and Charger with a little skepticism that the batteries would support doing my lawn. The first time using the mower, the batteries only lasted about 75-80% of the lawn. Unknowingly, the batteries need to be broken in. I almost spent an extra $300 on a 6.0AH battery to support cutting my entire lawn in one effort. The second time I used the mower, the batteries supported cutting my entire lawn and my neighbors back yard. Also picked up a lot of leaves in the process. Love the twin blades and the turbo feature for bagging. Mulch feature is excellent as well. The mower is smart enough to know when to apply extra power to get through thick areas or areas with excess cuttings. Before I purchased this mower, I had read a few reviews concerning the self propelled feature. What I found was the feature likes to stay engaged for about a second or two after releasing the self propel lever. To avoid tugging the lawn mower back towards you, just leave the lever go about 2-3 feet before reaching the point of pulling the mower back. Smooth sailing. I am really happy that I purchased this mower with a 25" wide cut. Replaced my riding tractor that had a 42" wide cut. No more gas or gas cans, oil or oil changes including disposal of same or clouds of smoke from the engine. Walking behind the mower in or out of self propel is easy and keeps me in better health as well. If you buy one, you won't be disappointed.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This thing is awesome. No cords, easy charging, cuts through tall grass with ease, self-propelled makes hills a pleasure. If you need a new mower or just want one, go get this one today.

It's Pretty Good!

Exceeds my expectations in terms of battery life per use (can't speak to long term)--and they don't really seem to advertise that once one battery runs out, you can charge it while you're running on the second battery. Very helpful for a big yard. Quality seems top notch, including the charger which has cooling fans. Folds up nice. Assembly is minimal and easy.
What keeps me from 5 stars is the cutting quality is a little bit subpar compared to my old (and dull) gas mower--more often I have to double-pass thick spots. Not too big a deal though. The more annoying part is pretty well covered in other reviews: when you disengage the self-propel it takes a solid couple seconds until you can roll those wheels backwards, like for changing direction and pivoting. Quite annoying, really. I'd probably go 3.5 stars if given the option.
That said, net-net, I'm happy with it and would still recommend it.
