Solid machine But..

I have had this lawn mower about a month now and it works well, it's just that the handle is too long and that makes it difficult to push. If the handle were adjustable I think it would make life easier for us shorter people ( I am 5'9" tall)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello Sylvester,

Thank you for your review! We're glad that you are ultimately impressed with the performance. We appreciate your feedback on the handles. Please know that this unit features our EZ Fold handles which have 2 positions. When unfolding the handles from the folded position, there are two slots that the handle can be locked into that will allow the user to choose a lower or higher handle height setting. We hope this information helps!

Hello,

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to read about your disappointment. The maximum advertised run time is based on no load. It is important to recognize that the run time depends on the load acting against the unit and fluctuates depending on the height setting, the terrain, grass height, type of grass, whether you are mulching, operator technique, etc. - there are so many factors to consider. The harder the unit has to work, the quicker the battery charge will drain. Similar to how the gas in a vehicle will deplete quicker when driving at higher speeds or carrying more weight.

Here are a few tips to extend your run time!
1) When cutting thick grass, reduce walking speed in order to allow for a more effective cut and a proper discharge of the clippings. 2) Only mow 1/3 of the total grass length at a time - no more. For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the total length of the grass. The average lawn should be approximately 1 1/2 to 2” (3.8 to 5 cm) long during cool months, and between 2" to 3 1/4" (5 cm to 8.3 cm) long during hot months. 3) Mow when the grass is dry. As this is an electric unit, mowing wet/damp grass is a safety issue. However, ensuring the grass is dry will also help the grass cut cleanly and discharge appropriately. Wet/damp grass carries more weight and will mostly stick to the blade/motor shaft and will not appropriately discharge or cut easily. 4) Make sure the battery is cool before use. When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging.

We hope these tips will help! For further information, please call us at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS).

I love my greenworks 60v mower. Tons of power, extremely quiet and battery life is great. Can’t wait to add more greenworks tools to my garage.

Last fall I purchased a battery powered grass trimmer and this spring I bought the lawn mower. It is so great to have a mower that starts without pulling on a cord and having one that is so quiet. I am so glad that I purchased this mower.

Self Propelled Mower

So far, so good. I used it for two cuttings. I love the quietness of the mower. I’m so glad I went for the self propelled mower. It’s just what I needed at 71 and hopefully it will keep me cutting my own lawn for a few more years. The feature that allows you to store it standing up is great.

You’re going to need more batteries

I bought this because my other 40v twin blade Greenwoks mower finally seized a motor. I like the single blade option, and though the self propelled is nice, you really have to use it all the time because the mower is just too heavy to push.
The motor is back wheel propelled which makes turning around much more difficult than a front wheel drive as you have to lift the back of the mower to make 90 degree turns instead of just tilting the front back with a simple push down on the handle, which is more natural.
If you opt to disengage the self propelled, you need to wait 2 seconds as the wheel is “locked” while in self propelled settings and takes a moment to disengage.
Also, it takes a while for the speed to resume back to full speed.
Now to the batteries. My mowing time is exactly 60 minutes. With my other mower, I could do it all with two 4 amp batteries. Not even close with this mower. I needed to buy 2 6 amp batteries where I use about 3 total (2 6 amp and most of a 4 amp) to mow it all now.
The original charger wouldn’t charge the 6 amp batteries, so I had to buy a new one.
Other than that, it is quoted and cuts better than the twin blade. I know there are better 21” mowers, but I wanted to stay with this as I have other 40v GW products and don’t want to manage other proprietary batteries.
Whatever you decide to get, make sure you build it around the batteries. Unfortunately with Greenworks, there are way too many battery types and configurations and nothing is really scalable. It’s also priced ok. Good for entry into the market and less than an hour of mow time.
