Poor Battery Life

My wife bought this unit as a Father's Day gift in 2020. She paid extra to upgrade to the 5.0AH battery. Everything worked great. The mower is easy to use, the self-propelled option is easy to use, the clippings bag is easy to remove and reinstall. It does a nice even job of cutting. I especially like the integrated height adjustment lever. The problem is that I went from 1.5 hours to mow my 0.4 acre lot to 5 hours because the battery only lasted for half the yard. Most of the time that became a two day event, becuase other things would come up while waiting for the battery to recharge. So, this year I bought a second battery, hoping I could get through the entire yard in one event. But, alas, it seems like the batteries drain even faster with two connected.

Hello jengle,
Thank you for your honest review. We are pleased to read that you are enjoying the performance of the lawnmower. While each 4Ah battery is capable of running up to 30-40 minutes, this is in ideal conditions. It's important to adjust your mowing techniques to make the most out of the battery life. It goes without saying that that the harder the unit works, the quicker the battery drains. Here are a few mowing tips. 1) When cutting thick grass, reduce walking speed in order to allow for a more effective cut and a proper discharge of the clippings. 2) Only mow 1/3 of the total grass length at a time - no more. For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the total length of the grass. The average lawn should be approximately 1 1/2 to 2” (3.8 to 5 cm) long during cool months, and between 2" to 3 1/4" (5 cm to 8.3 cm) long during hot months. 3) Mow when the grass is dry. As this is an electric unit, mowing wet/damp grass is a safety issue. However, ensuring the grass is dry will also help the grass cut cleanly and discharge appropriately. Wet/damp grass carries more weight and will mostly stick to the blade/motor shaft and will not appropriately discharge or cut easily. 4) Make sure the battery is cool before use. When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging. We hope these tips will help! If not, we would be happy to investigate to see whether your run time would be considered average; please submit an email using the customer contact page on our website or give us a call at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). All we ask that you have access to the unit so that we can complete troubleshooting with you and gather necessary unit information.

I've used it twice, and and it works well on my relatively small yard. Love that I can store it in the walk out basement/storage area without volatile or messy liquids.

Would like to see the deck made out of plastic. It’s too heavy

Very well made, not enough run time

I like the mower. I bought it last year when they were selling it with one 5.0mah battery. I have a 1/4 acre lot with and the 5.0mah is only enough power for about 2/3 on one charge. Thankfully adding an additional 2.0mah battery from my line trimmer gets the job done. But now I can't trim until the battery charges. Charging is pretty quick though. I absolutely love not having to buy gas and very ow maintenance. This thing is so light I barely use the self propell feature.
Needing the additional battery costs this one points in the Cost Saving category.

Does A Great Job But I Would Change A Few Things

First the things that I wish I could change. > For me assembly was difficult for the handle. The side with the cable was assembled poorly and almost impossible to slide into the metal part of the handle. Once I got it in the cable obstructed the hole where the bolt to secure it goes and I have been unable to move it. Greenworks told me to remove the handle and try again, NO! > The rear drive wheels are hard and pretty slick so the slightest tough lump or slight hole leaves the rear wheels spinning instead of gripping and pushing through. > There are no intermediate height settings, only full inch increments. If you need 2.5" or 3.5" cut length you won't find it here. > It has online warranty registration and I can't get it registered because I bought it direct, had to convert the email invoice to a pdf, but then the online registration rejects the off as too large despite it being about 1/3rd smaller than they say the maximum size is.
OK, maybe the gripes are petty, and I am living with them and I give the mower 4 stars for being great otherwise. I'll work around my dislikes. If two of the above items were fixed I probably would give it 5 stars.

So far i love it the only reason i am not giving 5 stars is because you have to push forward after releasing the self propel option to get the mower to go in reverse. Otherwise, so far the mower is great. I get about 1/2 out od each charge. I just bought the pole saw also.

Nice electric mower, but short battery life experienced during my first cut

Overall a nice lawn mower. Cutting quality was even and consistent and i like the single handle blade height adjustment. Easier than a gas mower to maneuver. My only complaint is the poor battery life I've experienced so far. I have a regular, flat city lot of approximately 4,000 sq feet of grass. My first time cutting it with the 2 brand new 4.0ah batteries fully charged for 48 hours prior to mowing only lasted for 1/2 of my yard or approximately 20-25 minutes of cutting. Fortunately the batteries charged up rather quickly (~15-20 minutes), but i expected to be able to do my whole lawn with one charge.

It is good enough for my yard about 2000 square feet with some slopes. The self-propelled function is useful even for a small slope. Each battery runs about 30 min, a bit longer without self-propelled. I use two batteries to finish the work. I share the battery with the 60V trimmer.
