I had an issue with my investment data upload and requested help. I was able to speak with a support person who was very helpful.
It turned out that the ‘defect’ was cosmetic and the data downloaded was correct—I spent hours verifying every item vs hard copy reports.
In the meantime the support person gave me the more expensive tax software version.
The thing is, if it weren’t for the data uploads from my financial institutions I could just fill in data on the IRS website.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

I would rate it 5, if I hadn't run into come confusion. I reported my MDR in the 1099R section. Later when it asked about my MDR and I entered it, my refund went down over $8,000. That section should say, if you reported your MDR with your 1099Rs, there's no need to fill out this portion. I did find out in the help section, that if I reported it with my 1099Rs, there was no need to enter it later.
Pros: Maximizes refund

Overall a good experience. Interview process is the strongest part of the process. Footnotes are helpful for explanations as to which direction to go. The caution triangles were informative near the end of the return although it never conclusively solved the “dilemma” as to whether there was duplicate data. Schedule C specifically. Kept warning/reminding/urging me to let the IRS calculate the penalty and decided to do it myself. Was generally ok with that but wanted to finish the process and get it over with. The interview was comprehensive enough to defensively calculate the penalty myself. Understand the rationale used there a little scare tactic to potentially avoid a future audit.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

I have been using H&R Block tax software for over 25 years. I am generally happy with it but this year I found a bug in the software that even into the month of March it was not corrected via updates. Luckily I noticed the error and performed the correction manually.

The software worked well except for constantly having to download the same update 4 times! Also I do not know why I have to pay to file my state taxes electronically when I already paid for the state software!!
