The software downloaded and installed easily. Overall, the process was good. But there are two areas that were disappointing.
First, the "interview' process did not include needed information for a 1099-R. However, this was detected during the final review, and I was able to add this directly to the form. I even went back through the interview to see if I missed entering the required info, but did not note it.
More disappointing, I was not able to view the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gains worksheet. This is a direct link between taxable income and tax liability, and is important info.
The good news is that I did not detect any tax calculation issues.
The entry point to enter "income derived from US Govt obligations", which is not state taxable and should automatically shift over as a deduct entry on your state tax, is VERY difficult to find and not obvious. and if you do a 'right click' override, you then cannot file electronically but must print and mail return. Unacceptable.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to fix issues, Hard to prepare
The print feature is totally non-user friendly! First, one cannot use print features on their own printer to do the printing. Secondly, your feature does not permit one to make the correct selection in the print range. For example, in printing form 8283 one cannot print the front page only, even though NO blanks are filled in on the reverse side of that form, thus NOT needed to print. To make matters worse if one has between 5 - 7 agencies to whom they have contributed a third copy of both sides of the form are required to print. Why show a "Copy 3" when one is NOT needed? To some extent the same bad feature exists for Schedule C.
Why is a "Nickname" required to complete this evaluation. That is nonsensical!!!
I have no idea of your program's accuracy or your tax expertise. Therefore, another category should be available for rating -- "Unknown" or N/A, etc.
The process went OK except for the fact that I live in Alaska and your software program makes it very hard to bypass the State tax part in view of the fact the Alaska does not have any State taxes. The software program seems to handle this fact very poorly and it make me redo my W2 three times to get it to bypass the State part.
All the people who whine about how difficult taxes are should get this software. 10 years ago before using these types of software, taxes were tough, and I had little confidence I was doing it right. Now it is a piece of cake with all the wizards and helpful info.
