It automatically assumes if the standard deduction is numerically greator thaan the itemized dollar amount on the federal return then you should use the standard. But, when you do the state however, it does not check if you would itemized on the state your state refund or tax would be a "considerable savings" and thereby ALLOW the user to itemize the state. IT FORCES YOU TO USE STATE STANDARD DEDUCTION simply because it decided to do so in federal. It should of taken the use back to the federal and changed or allow the user to change to itemized deductions in federal to allow for greater returns in the state. I paid 500 dollars more in state taxes because it FORCED me to take the standard deduction. I overrode the software to let me take the itemized deduction. I got less for the fed but gained 500$ in the state. Who needs the software!?!
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to fix issues
I have used H&R Block tax software for 4 years now, maybe more. I keep on using it because it works great for me. Simple to do it myself with their product. Fast and easy if you have your information gathered up. The only thing I don't like is the extra fee for State E-file. Seems high to me. I usually print it out and mail it but this year decided to save myself the trouble. Other than that I find the experience great. Sure beats the old way of reading all the garbage from the IRS.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast
Overall, the program is pretty intuitive. But the printing functionality on Macs is terrible. The program automatically defaults to landscape printing and cuts off the bottom 1/4 of each form. (The same thing happens when you save forms as PDFs.) When I Googled the problem looking for a fix, I found posts dating back four years complaining about the same issue. You'd think they'd have it fixed by now.
I have used this program for several years and never had any difficulties. This year was a little different. After I completed my taxes, but before I filed them, I went back and changed the way I was going to pay the tax due with a credit card. The program let me know that payment information will come with the acceptance. My taxes were accepted but no other instruction were sent. Do you know how to pay with a credit card?

Its great at rolling last year into this year, as it should be. I just wish you would stop arguing about having a $0 entry and constantly sating there are "issues" that need to be resolved. If I type in $0 treat it differently than it being blank and clear the verification issue.
Been using H&R Block tax program for years, and it is great at starting you off and getting you through the painful tax process. I would suggest they find the mailing address for the IRS payment when you owe.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Easy to import
