Federal Return went well, but transfer of Interest Income to PA Tax database within H&R Block went haywire, when PA software acknowledged Interest Income but would not include it in PA SP Tax Forgiveness calculations. Software treated it as an actual PAID CREDIT rather than simply a reduction in taxes paid. No matter how often I went over the questions to force a change in the calculations, it didn't matter: the Interest Income would not be recognized as true income. Perhaps the PA Instructions related to the Tax Forgiveness calculations confused the programmers. Whatever the cause, I was forced to white out the printed results and replace them by hand with the proper mathematical results. Consequently, I spent at least 5 X more effort trying to correct the software than I would have by simply doing the whole return by hand. And of course, I spent more to get the State Return with the original purchase. Also, please allow users to print the screen their working on, rather than only allowing the print choice of filled out forms. Ed Reich 4/13/18
Online chat helpful in clarifying fine points, just a looong wait! I found it easy to review and update input as I became clearer of what was happening. Bug? The acceptance date/time on my e-file was EARLIER than my submission.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Easy to import
This program can be hard to use sometimes, wanting you to review things and not letting you move on, even after you have. After lots of trials and tribulations, I got everything squared away and ended up with a refund when I expected to have to pay in!
I've used Tax Cut for many years. It's easy to install and use and the help screens are very good. The Tax Deduction subprogram puts this over the top as I can easily calculate reasonable amounts for the goods I donate to charities.
