I have used H&R Block Deluxe for at least 7 years and am generally happy with the ease of use. However, this year, when entering my income info, I mistyped the state deduction as $39000 vice $3900 on a total income of about $70,000. The program let me run through to the end, telling me I would receive about $43,000 in refunds and said I had no accuracy errors or audit issues. It took me a while to find my type but I would have thought that the program would be smart enough to note this extreme withholding and take me to that screen to double check my figures. It did not.
I had a few deductions and the software wasn’t letting me add them. I called and the person couldn’t help me, put me on hold and then the line disconnected after a few minutes on hold. I couldn’t put in my AGI, since it said it had autopopulated. I had to file by mail because there was no way to verify my agi.
The software worked quite well and I was especially satisfied with the e-filing. Last year this did not even work for those of living outside the US, however this year it went very well. Despite this improvement the software is not as friendly as I would like due my residence outside the US.
