I bought the Deluxe software because I hoped it would not lead me into dead ends like your lower level software. Unfortunately, I still ran into a wall of no information about how to handle information on my K-1. Using IRS instructions and talking to a friend, I figured out how to provide information to your software so that I could complete my taxes with relative confidence, but I think your software should be able to ask me the proper questions so that I don't have to go to the IRS and a friend. And I think my use of your software in past years has led me to miss out on the QBI deduction, which does not make me happy.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The software experience was overall pretty good, Help desk was awful, I needed help and called for help desk, they had me on hold for over 2 hours and they kept on extending the time. I had to hang up.

Was much easier to use than Turbo tax, I purchased both, Last year I used Turbo tax for filing, Had to do an amended return , (VA) because of retired Mil Pay. VA mil Pay deduction was not easy to find on H&R, I could see that Turbo Tax was out after the younger crowd. You need to pay attention to demographics. There's over 40 print, maybe should be an over 40 tax program.
Pros: Easy to prepare

Consistent performance; needs faster corrections

I am a long-time user of H&R Block tax software. The interview can be "clunky" but you get used to it. The frustration that I have is when I submit issues, I would like feedback on if the fix will be implemented prior to the filing deadline. An example this year - the foreign tax credit interview did not have "RIC" (or "VAR") as an option in the menu of "countries" for foreign taxes related to mutual funds (where the country is usually "various").
I would recommend this to a friend!
