Overall the software worked verrpy good. One glitch was noted when entering our 1099R from Civil Service Retirement. The software did nit provide a place to enter box 13, UT State Id Number. That omission was not flagged in the federal return but was flagged as a must fix problem in the Utah state file software. It was not clear which form to correct and took awaile to figure that out. Also it was as simple as it could be to correct the form. After several tries I learned that the sequence of 1) enter the correction on the form; 2) hit the return key; 3) click the Close Form button; 4) and finally click the CLOSE button at the top of the page. Any other sequence would not save the change.
I thought the section where you list securities that you have sold was more complicated than in the past. Also the section on HSA's is not that easy. Other parts were smooth sailing.
I was worried about the new tax laws and how it would affect me. I put the software in and within 30 minutes I was done! I like how it updates constantly with new tax laws. And I like the updates of the status of the return. I have bought H&R Block software the last 3 years and will continue to do so!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I will not use H&R Block federal & state software again. It will not accept my AGI from tax yr 2017 even after making a correction. You don't have to report it on the regular 1040 from so why do you have to report it on the software. Money loss both federal & state.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
