I like a paper copy of the 1040 for my file, so I selected select forms for printing. It aproximated 4 pages and I got 8. YOU NEED TO MAKE IT MORE SELECTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have used H&R Block for several years and have found the continuity helpful, with the import of previous data for depreciation, etc. Within the software, some of the assistants help with answers but are a bit confusing with little explanation. "Help" takes you to the FAQs or overall help, but is not in context to the form or topic. But, since the code changed so much this past year, I very much appreciated the help that was available.
Have been using this product over 10 years and love importing last year's data to get a good start every year. Tax law is complex, but most preparation has been simplified through step by step guidance. If more complex issues require research, as in my case, for one example, scholarships, fellowships, and related tax credits, for a few years (3 kids in college), the software provides links and advice that help. The software considers all of the complex interactions between income and expenses, credits, deductions, and limits, and asks pertinent questions to ensure all aspects of the law are followed. I won't try to prepare my taxes any other way.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
The program walks through the necessary questions and I just fill in the answers. I think it would be like a face to face tax consultant but I can do it on my laptop while I'm in an easy chair.
Purchased this product for years before H&R Block bought out Kiplinger and rebranded it. It's always been good, and it has not deteriorated since it was acquired.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
I like the software but am deducting one star for the standard deduction calculafor not shown in forms or in supplemental forms when printed. The standard deduction calculator appears only in the IRS instructions only which does not say much about their communication skills either.
