Have used H&R block for many years and have found it acceptable software. But this year I found a problem with PA return. It does not have input option for excluding dividend income from Federal sources and thus exempt from PA taxes (e.g. a % of mutual fund dividends). (It has this option for interest income.) Had to do a manual override (and is that ever hard to figure out!!). But when I printed for filing, it only printed the taxpayer copy of the Schedule B (taxpayer had the dividend exclusion override). I had to print the spouse copy of Schedule B separately from the Forms menu.
I HAVE BEEN USING HR BLOCK FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY GLITCHES OR ISSUES AND ALWAYS GOT MY REFUND QUICKLY. KNOWING THAT THEY ARE THERE TO HELP ANSWER QUESTIONS AND IF YOU SHOULD GET AUDITED THEY WILL HELP IS A GREAT COMFORT. BUT...I HAVE NEVER NEEDED TO ASK A QUESTION AND I HAVE NOT BEEN AUDITED
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
This is the first time we have used Federal and State efile. We followed the instructions step by step and the process went very smoothly. We had one very minor data error that needed correction and the status notices were very clear so that both returns were accepted the same day.
Overall the software is pretty easy to use and go through the process. The biggest issue I had with the software is that for dependent care expenses, you can only have 4 providers. I use multiple summer camps and have more than that, which meant I couldn't e-file the forms.
