I have used HRB tax software for several years and find it 95% fits my needs. Only problem with it is that I have distributions from a gas and oil trust stock and the instructions for handling this situation is vague.
It is very easy and simple to use this software. Great features. Easy to download and use the data from my investment accounts. I love this and I have been using H&R tax software for the past 3 years without any issues. Great one.
For the past two years I had to file a 1099 C for a reunion I run for a group of retired Police officers. We get some monies from an Insurance company who advertises with us and a rebate on rooms from the hotel which we have to write off. The categories on the 1099 C are in no way compatible to what we do in that we are not a business per se.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Made my way thru this year's new Fed Tax forms... if I get sidetracked, I can always look at their checklist to see what I have or have not completed. This year I e-filed... got back the IRS acceptance in an hour or so!!!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I have used HR Block for several years and it worked fine this time UNTIL I was ready to file the returns. I opted to e-file both federal and state (Maine). The program responded that i could not e-file until I checked for updates. I then downloaded and installed both the federal and state updates and re-entered the filing information. It then again refused to complete filing until I checked for updates. I did and it showed the federal was complete but the state still had an update available, so I downloaded and installed the state update again, and went through the filing pages again, and AGAIN it refused to process the e-filing until I checked for updates. Two more times i went through the whole process of installing the state updates and going through the e-file process, and after four tries I gave up and changed my filing option to e-filing federal only and paper-filing the state. The program then processed the federal e-file.
I have found the program serves my needs much better than its' rivals. There are some questions in my state returns that have been answered in my Federal return but the data is not transferred. I owe money to one of my states that I have chosen to e-file. Prior to filing, I could not find information on exactly when and how to pay.
