I've been using this software for years. It couldn't be easier to file your return. Even easier if you have used the software the year before as it pulls in all of your previous return's data fields. Click "submit" to efile and you're done.
For some reason, when I tried to open the itemized lists that I was keeping for this return, I had a difficult time trying to open the list that I wanted. The wrong list was opened. This happened both when I double clicked on the name of the list or when I selected the list I wanted to open list and then clicked on OK.
The second issue is that on my state return (Iowa) I kept having to re-enter my health care expenses since it did not seem to save them. I ended up having to enter this information in 3 or 4 times.
I did not have these issues in previous years.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Form 1116 abandons normal question/answer mode leaving one to get lost in a form with mini-worksheets superimposed that is more complex than the full form itself. It even doesn't cover all items on the form. Some fields leave one guessing as to what the proper data is - in effect "Call IRS for details on this field"
There are lots of places that the software just doesn't address well. Perhaps embed links to other articles helping those who only do this once a year would be good. For instance, the software brought over last years taxes, which was good. However, I did some side work last year, which I didn't do for 2018. It still brought it over and I had a fit with understanding it. The summary at the end caught it and reported it as an issue. It wasn't an issue, but I had to end up deleting that Schedule C Form in order to e-file. There should have a wizard to ask me if I still had this side job. Just my opinion.
