I buy this product every year but this is that last year. I had to spend many hours reentering all the stock option trades that this software failed to calculate correctly from IMPORT from TDAmeritrade. Otherwise the software functioned properly. Also needed Form 990EZ and was not available in the Deluxe version.
This is a great product because it is so easy to use and navigate through! The only negative thing I have to say is on the section that gives you options to use a state DL or other ID to verify your identity, it doesn’t include an IRS PIN option!
We have used the product for the past 7 years. This year was more complex with the tax changes. We typically had large deductions, so our taxes went up. The mismatch of our state with Federal was covered in this product. However, though we filled in information boxes directly from the form 1099 R, it was a pain to go back and re-do some information that was entered, because there was no instruction not to include letters in the box. (Letters WERE included on the 10899 form)
Does not carry all info from Federal to State eg Pension & IRA Withdrawl Does not proforma bank info from 2017 to 2018 Does not proforma NJ T and S Drivers License reqd info from 2017 to 2018 Links to Federal and State instruction forms are awkward and hard to access
I have been using HRBlock for many years after a competitor product failed to properly calculate a loss. HRBlock is OK. I had some difficulty this year finding any instruction on how to add a statement to the Federal return (to say there was an excess $150 401(k) contribution that was fixed before 4/15/19). Never found out how, gave up and filed anyway. I also clicked e-file Federal and NY separately so I would have time to look up bank account info for payment of State liability. After e-filed Federal, I was stuck in a loop, unable to figure out how to e-file NY. Maybe I'm dense, but program instructions should be more clear.
