Adequate software for filing taxes.

Overall good software. Still has some glitches as software did not allow me to enter Foreign Tax Credit directly into Form 1116, which resulted in my credit being lower than what it should have been.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

We've been using HR block tax software for a few years, and this is the first year leaving a review. For us, the interface just 'works' really well, as well as comparing single vs married joint filing, comparing itemized vs standard deductions, and each of import from last years taxes, and ease of data entry. Highly recommended.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

Beware - NJ Renter's -- wants roommate SSNs

NJ-1040 does NOT require personal information of roommates. But H&R Block NJ-state software REQUIRED both full name and SOCIAL SECURITY NO., claiming an error that prevents electronic filing. Other software calculation shortcomings: doesn't permit unequal rent split amongst roommates; doesn't permit proration of rent paid for partial month (such as at start or end of rental period).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used this product for over 20 years and highly recommend it for year to year compatibility and ease of getting a variety of tax returns completed accurately.

Under 'Federal Owe:' the amount I owe is shown in red text and in parenthesis. I interpreted the parenthesis as a negative value per accounting standards. This led me to believe I was receiving a huge refund for a couple weeks, but when finalizing my return I see I owe a lot! I don't know why those parentheses are there but they confused me and cost me a bit of money in the scramble to pay. Please address this usability gap. Thank you.
