I would have given this five stars except for 2 things. I could have saved a lot of time and effort if they had simply provided a list of possible deductions and provided the threshold that had to be exceeded in order to make itemizing worthwhile. A quick ballpark figure of my total medical and other deductions could have saved me a lot of time with the right tax explanations at the start of the process. My only other concern is that you have to pay extra to file State Taxes electronically and you have to say yes to electronic filing before you get to a page that gives you the option to only file the Federal taxes electronically.
Ease of program use... BUT had difficulty with activation code and my charge card was billed 19.95 three (3) times to accomplish a successful transmission for the state transmission. I will dispute but leaves a bad taste this year... time is valuable.
I have used H&R Block Tax software for several years and find it much better than the competitor. But with the tax code changes, I did have to contact customer service with questions. Would suggest adding explanations about self direct IRAs and the standard deduction bonus for over 65.
It does a good job importing data. Only a few small errors there. Very easy to use. Only problem is the hidden cost of paying taxes using a credit card. They don’t tell you until after you have filed and can’t change the payment method that there is a 2.59% handling fee. This fee is 2.59 % of the amount you owe. That is outrageously expensive. They happily tell you that you can deduct the fee next year! This is absurd.
I just purchased this software a few days before the deadline. I can't believe how quick this process was. The software gave step by step instructions which placed my mind at ease.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
My H&R Block experience was good. Very easy to navigate through the whole process. My only problem was with the IRS. When I tried to e-file my Federal and State returns, my Federal return was rejected by the IRS. They stated that the reason was that I did not enter my correct 2017 AGI. In fact, I did enter the correct 2017, so I retried and of course it was rejected a second time. There fore the State return could not be e-filed either so I had to print both returns and file by mail.
