I have used the H&R Block tax prep software for many years. The interview method is easy to use. You can also jump to a specific form to see how the software is filling in the forms. It carries the federal information over to the state forms so there is almost no additional work to file the state return.

My taxes are relatively simple, all retirement incomes from 1099-Rs, with one other income, this software made easy work of it. I've always used TurboTax in the past, but switched to H&R block when I couldn't get a question answered on last year's return concerning how to handle cashing in a universal life policy. The H&R Block software navigated me through that issue without any hesitation. Since it worked so well, I've continued to be an H&R Block customer this year. I give it 4 stars only because I prefer the TurboTax interface a little more. I'll continue using this software next year.

I did not have a lot of problems until I had to go back and update some of the information. In some cases, I was not able to determine what it did and had to delete that section and totally reenter the data. Once everything was in, I waited till the 14th and loaded the update. Not sure what happened then, but had to start over with the data entry.

Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
