I'm usually a fan of H&R Blocks' software but this year, with all of the problems, I can't recommend it. I have been able to file my Federal forms but the State is still not able to be filled. I'm hoping it gets fixed next week. I was very concerned about any Federal delays due to the thieves who are more and more often filing before you and getting your return.
It is definitely better then doing taxes by hand, however, some of the aspectts coold be done better. Their are quite a selections of options to upload W2 forms: download it, upload from PDF, send a picture from a mobile device. But for 1099 int Div, and others their are only 2: enter by hand and downlowed from banks that share with them. In addition, section File Jointly or separate not wery intuitev, and insted of jus dividing in 2 separate returns it makes you to reenter all the information all over.
TAhe H&R Block software is straightforward to use. It asks the right questions to gather all relevant tax information. The forms, when printed out, are identical to those of the IRS. It also allows you to see where the information is going on the tax form before the actual filing. The software for my state is similar. I have been using the H&R Block tax software for about 10 years. It is excellent in design and ease of use.
