Used this for over 20yrs, even before direct on-line submission; has always been accurate and updating is very easy. Auto interviews are easy to follow and thorough and Help feature usually provides needed info, altho the ability to access IRS website for complete info is very handy and useful.
Good to have complete set of forms when needed (small business, stocks, retirement accounts, etc).
Would be better if it had more extensive list of mid/large companies for W2 import and financial institutions for 1098/99 forms
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

Product is not poor, it works. The information from a prior year was poor. It was BAD. Block imported incomplete and inaccurate information from the 2024 return into the 2025 return. I spent hours on the phone over three days speaking with ten agents. No one at Block was able to provide me with the information to correct this error.

HR Block continues to be a solid tool for doing taxes. There's not much I found hard to understand, though there are a few places where it just absolved itself of any responsibility, which I didn't like. One example is when a 1099-DIV had a particular class of dividend and it just told me it accepted no responsibility for figuring out how to handle that. Seems like it should do better. I also had problems last year and was unable to e-file my California state taxes due to its inability to handle SDI properly. If this year I'd had issues again, I would have bailed and never used it again. But, things went smoothly enough so I'll probably be back next year, hoping that these little areas where it fails to help out will not be significant.

Cons: Time consuming
