H&R Block Deluxe is still my favorite tax software for doing my federal income tax return. Although it is usually easy to follow and fill out, especially with the recent complicated tax legislation, I was confused about reporting my Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). I'm still not sure if I did it right.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

The validations are sometimes very frustrating. You fix the issue or confirm there is no error and it still comes up with a data issue. It also won’t say what/why it’s an error. If you’re going to say there’s an error, then tell me what the error is or how to fix it. For the most part the software is easy to use and guides you seemleasly.

We have used this product for the last 6 years and will continue for the foreseeable future. Completed fed and state taxes in 6-8 hours. The overall interface is good for loading all material needed to complete our annual taxes. We typically have 10-12 W-2's and 1099's to load as well as going through the interviews for itemizing vs. standard deductions. However, one area that is more difficult to manage is back door roth and roth conversions. If you could provide more clear guidance or better interview structure on these topics that would be helpful. We usually have to look up other external sources for help in these areas.

I have been using this software for many many years. It does help me prepare my federal and California tax returns and I do have confidence that I am submitting proper and correct tax returns to the government and the state every time I use it. My complaint is that for the second time I have been unable to submit my tax returns electronically. There is an issue with pin number or something else, but the problem remains. I am unable to submit e-filing from this software for the second year around. I think next year I will try a different software.
