Not the same program...it used to have better verbiage that helped to explain some of the vague tax law. That's gone. Used to have links to actual explanations of where things could be deducted. That's gone. It does have new ads in the middle of submitting taxes. I also has new features that take 20 minutes to fill out only to try to sell more stuff when you're done. Yeah. I think I'll look at Turbo Tax after using Tax Cut since the late 90's.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
Year after year instructions remain nearly uniform. This makes it easy to do y2arly taxes without having to figure out a new layout or set of instructions.
Had a real problem with my (I'm retired) IRA Required Minimum Distribution as I did my taxes. Even though I had a 1099 for the exact withdrawal, I kept getting the additional tax for not making that withdrawal. Finally had to over ride and delete the extra tax form. The IRS should have a special code on the 1099 for RMDs that would make this clear.
