I've used this software for the last 3 years and it's been great. I especially like how it is able to automatically download previous year's data and all information from my brokerage into the appropriate forms. This latter area was always the most complicated and most prone to potential error. So far the IRS has not found any problems!

Easy to use, allows for various depreciation methods. Brings forward data from prior years and allows you to compare data from prior years. I have used it for over 10 years on a relatively complex return with little difficulty

Standard deduction cost me hundreds on state taxes

I have used this software for years and generally love it. I would have rated it higher but for 2 things. It does not support entering a K-1 from certain investments. Since the federal tax cut two years ago it has not been upgraded to address a major problem. If you enter a significant amount of itemized deductions in your federal return, somewhere in preparing your state return it ought to automatically compare filing with both itemized and standard deductions on the state return and tell which will give you the lowest total taxes. Although my itemized deductions are about the same as my standard deduction, if I use standard on the federal I must use it on the state and I wind up paying hundreds of dollars more in state taxes than I would if I itemized on both returns. The software lets me check that myself easily, but at a minimum it ought to advise me to do that, and better yet, do it automatically.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
