Almost no support, interview questions are not clear and don't include all possibilities. The help button sends you directly to the IRS site, where you must fish for the answers.Makes even the most basic taxes, complicated. I'm 59 and have been doing my taxes a long time, we don't have anything special. But tax rules have changed over the years. I have been using this software for several years. I think I will spend a little more next year and go with someone else.
I like this software as it makes it easy to import your W-2', etc and even brokerage docs. It always does the trick, but some "data" items still always get hosed somehow, so not sure what's going on. Its also too bad that they dont have links to certain tax documents, or at least explain them. You have to pony up for more help if you need it.
The program is easy to use. My only complaint is that when I want to print out a form for filling for my records, it prints lots of extra supporting pages with no option not to print them. For example for 1040, I want only the first 2 pages for my personal use. Also I want to be able to print a form 1040 even when the short form is what goes to the IRS.
I have been using this software for over twenty years. This year my PC failed, and I had to start over after a lot of work. As, VITA tax volunteer I have recently become familiar with Taxslayer, and I tried it. But, it did not have all features of H&R Block’s program, especially the ability to hand 1099-MISC income as non-self employment income. I went back and redid my taxes again with H&R Block’s software and saved $2K.
