Overall, the program is okay. Leads me through all the steps of a return including a Schedule C. The feature of carrying forward all the information from the 2018 return is very helpful. It took me a while to learn the trick of adding a new item, for example, a new 1099-R. The "Help" button was useless for me. Could not answer questions like "Do I need to report contributions to a Roth IRA?" (the answer is No), or "Do I need to send in my payment when I submit the return?" (the answer is No). The worst fault was in the Michigan State return. The program did not realize that for older citizens Michigan does not tax pension income. Since I knew that, I was able to find the form and fix it. This glitch lowers my confidence in the program. I would recommend it with reservations.
I have used H&R Block tax software for years. It's easy to use (for tax software, that's relative) and walks the user through the process step by step.
I have used this software for several years without any problems. It's easy to use and it's well organized. However, this year I had a problem. The program would not let me submit my completed tax return to the IRS without updating the program. I updated it, but it still would not submit the return. After many failed attempts to update (even downloading updates from the website), the problem was resolved with the help of a person in the HR Block chat room. This required uninstalling and reinstalling the program. This took a couple of hours to troubleshoot and accomplish. It was a very frustrating process. In the future, I recommend that users be alerted to software issues before they have to spend hours trying to get the software to submit their tax returns. Thank you.
