I have been using H&R tax software for many years and have have no real issues with it. However, this year I had a change that requires me me to be more diligent about estimated tax payments. The California state software very nicely provided me with a, hopefully, comprehensive estimate schedule and the vouchers for the payments. However, the planning section to address estimate payments for IRS required re-entering most information already available in the federal interview. Would be nice if more help was provided with that.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Software works well, very clear and easy; have 2 complaints. First, please put an operation to enable larger print size, type is TOO small. Second, in audit check, it takes you to a form but cannot obtain an explanation of problem. I have been using this software for numerous years.

Miscalculates home mortgage interest deduction: CA

I have used this product for years and have been audited several times due to mistakes in the program regarding the home mortgage interest deduction. H&R Block does provide support for audits and will pay for the interest on late payments due to their mistakes, but only within 3 years, and not all of my audits have been inside of this time period. The home mortgage interest deduction is finally fixed on the federal form as of 2024, but is still not correct on my state form for CA. If you are claiming a home mortgage deduction, make sure you are extremely sure of what to do! This program does not automatically give you give the home mortgage interest deduction for CA, and if you manage to find the tiny little box that says "I paid home mortgage interest" buried in the long list of unlikely deductions, it will prompt you with the wrong deduction information.
If you have used the product for many years and know how to override the mistakes, it will save a lot of time over collecting all the correct forms yourself and filling them out by hand. Otherwise, be careful.

For the first time in many (8+) years, H& R Block has failed me!
I followed instructions as per usual, did accuracy reviews and submitted my returns. Twice now my federal return has been rejected despite trying to follow the very insufficient and poorly crafted instructions in the energy credit section. I’m miffed!

The Colorado State software has an error and the chat person could not help and wouldn’t escalate the issue to a person that I could explain the calculation issue with. That person just closed the chat. I’ll not purchase H&RBlock software in the future after having been a customer for about 10 years
