I have used H&R Block’s software for our taxes every year since 2006. It is an excellent value for the money and has saved me hours and hours of time over the years.
I have no desire to learn all the ins and outs of our unreasonably complicated tax code. Nothing is perfect, but using this software backed by their guarantees I’m paying the correct amount and they will support me should the IRS audit our returns; gives me confidence the forms I submit are accurate and error free.

Easy for simple returns; state e-file is too $$$$$

Mostly easy to use, but I have pretty simple returns to file. It did throw an alert without providing a good explanation; I didn't figure out how to resolve it but I don't think it's a real problem. My biggest complaint is the hidden cost of state e-filing, which almost doubles the price.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

Late Alabama State software

Before the end of each tax year, I like to guess as best I can the tax consequences of the year. Well, the Alabama tax software never showed up until after the start of the new year (2020) which did me little good in making end of year financial decisions. One such decision was to take a capital loss or not to offset a capital gain. The Alabama tax (and Federal) after using the software revealed I should have sold. I'm VERY disappointed!
