I had one issue with my CA state return and I called the 1-800-472-5625 Free In-Person Audit Support and within 8 minutes she located my issue and walked me thru fixing my return so I could submit. It was really easy.
I've been using H&R Block tax software for years, and it has always served me well. It's not perfect, but then I doubt any of the tax programs are, and it works for my purposes as both a salaried individual and an independent contractor.
Been using Turbo Tax for years and decided to try H&R Block this year. Had some issues with interest income as a part year resident in 2 different states. Also imbeds state return in the same file where Turbo Tax gave a separate file for state and federal which was more convenient for me. Also on state return for Alabama, it kept flagging me to check a box for being employed which we are now retired so the box should not be checked. Couldn't follow some of the state calculations it did so I assume it is right.
