I learned this year not to dive in to the software and do an early return but rather to wait for software updates before completing my return. Self-determination of underpayment penalty was so very confusing and in the end I just gave up to let the IRS do the calculation for me.
Also last year I reported an error with entering college education contributions on my State (Wisconsin) Return and lo and behold the same mistake was in this year's referencing the wrong Line Number from which to extract total contributions from the previous year's return. Does anyone even review these survey entries?

The program is pretty easy to use, especially since I had already used it for the past 3-4 years. The program populates all the time consuming personal data from years past. My only issue is that it is extremely difficult to find some details of new data entry to review. (The type is awfully small for old eyes.)
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents

Have been using this tax software for several years. Extremely easy to navigate. Unfortunately, Merrill from Bank Of America I was unable to download into the tax software program. But with their easy prompts, I was able to complete the process manually.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

I have used H&R Block software for years and have been satisfied. The only real complaint I have is that the State programs are not included in the initial purchase foe e-file. You get to file the Federal income tax, but must complete another purchase to file a state income tax.
Pros: Easy to prepare

I've been using H&R Block software for years. Every year I try the online version along with competitor versions. They're more expensive and clunky compared to the old school downloaded software. The only caveat, software updates aren't completed till the end of February early March. If you're in a hurry, the downloaded version is not your choice.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
