I find the HRB Deluxe version very easy to use. I have been preparing my taxes myself for at least 45 years. I have used Block for the last 6 years. I had used TurboTax previously and see no reason to return to it.

I was able to successfully file my taxes using the H&R Block software this year. However, the program assumed I knew a good deal about taxes, tax laws, and forms. The help feature did not answer any of my questions and after waiting over an hour, I was never connected to a live representative. Luckily, I do know a fair bit and I could look questions up on the internet. I earn income as a tutor and babysitter. It was very unclear how to include this in the income section. It seems many people earn income that way so the program should be more clear. I figured it out eventually, but I was not sure I had entered in the info correctly until I got to the end. I had to pull up the forms I sent in last year to compare to the forms for this year. I do not think a program should assume I know anything about taxes. It should explain things more clearly and have a more robust help section.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy to extract last year information/data

This software is extremely dependable and easy to use, I have been using it for the last 15 years when it was called TaxCut. It is easy to extract last year information/data including your W2 form from your employer, mortgage interest & interest income directly from the bank, which reduce the time that takes you to fill the form. Neither to mention the easy question & answer session that eventually compile your taxes & forms. It converts the same information into your State forms.
I also appreciate the accuracy check at the end of session that allows to correct any mistakes.
The efiling is easy to do and allow for quick return of your refund.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
