I'VE BEEN USING H&R SINCE THE NINETIES. THE 2005 VERSION ADDS AI HELP WHICH I USED AND FOUND VERY HELPFUL. MY TAXES ARE RELATIVELY STRAIGHT FORWARD AND THE PROGRAM TAKES ANY GUESS WORK OUT OF FILING. THE PROGRAM CARRIES OVER OF BASIC INFO FROM PREVIOUS FILINGS, GETTING YOU OFF TO A FAST START. IT DOES THE CALCULATING FOR YOU BUT ALSO GIVES YOU AS MUCH CONTROL AS YOU WANT.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

I've been using this software for many years and never had a problem with how my taxes are calculated. But the software really needs to be modernized. 1) I use it on windows 11 PC and the program takes up about 1/2 of the screen in the middle with lots and lots of white space on either side. Lots and lots of room to make the text larger. Yet the text is very small. You have to use CTRL and + to enlarge it but then it pushes the buttons to advance off the screen. So you have to make it smaller again to advance then enlarge again the next screen. That is ridiculous. You need to make it more accessible for those of us with poorer eyesight. 2) When you want to look at the actual tax form it pops up in a small window. Every time I resize it to make it bigger but it never remembers the size I last used it. That is all basic Windows functionality. Why doesn't this software utilize it? I had such a hard time this year reading the questions it asked. I will definitely be looking elsewhere next year to see what other options are out there.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
