When encouraged to file both my state and federal together, it was not clearly pointed out to me that my federal return could be free. I hit the first choice presented by the program and was billed for both services. I'm not happy about the extra cost. That was a service that I should of gotten for free, and I feel I'm entitled to a refund.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

Very good with a few exceptions. When trying to change an entry manually, because it is different from last year, their should be a pop up telling you where the entry comes from, since the software doesn’t allow you to change the entry, because it is populated from an entry in a different form. You should be told what form needs to be changed or adjusted in order for that entry to change.

I've used H&R Block's tax software for years, and I do like it. I cannot give it 5 stars this year due to poor communication regarding their relationship with Merrill Lynch. For years I've been able to import my 1099's directly from ML, but this year I spent too much time going back and forth between Merrill and HRB without a clear understanding of why it wasn't available this year. I finally just hand entered them which I'd prefer to not have to do again

Cons: Hard to import documents

I have been using the software for year and I am happy with program itself. However, the installation of the base software, and the state portion, has been a nightmare for the last two year's of the software. For some reason, the .exe installer extracts an .msi file but doesn't run the .msi as administrator. This causes the installer to hang if UAC is set to any level of install confirmation. The only way around this is to turn off UAC, so that the .msi installer can run, or hunt down where on the hard drive is saved on the hard drive, and run it as administrator through a command prompt. Unfortunately, without an actual support hot line for installing the software, I had to figure this out all on my own. If the .exe download is run as Administrator, then it should call the .msi also as administrator, which would be how most programs are configured. And the same for downloading and installing the state package; it should be called as administrator so that UAC doesn't block the install. Since, by default, UAC is enabled on Windows 11, this causes havoc as the Windows installer is stuck in limbo, which will prevent any software from being installed until the service is ended.
