I use H&R mainly for the Amazon cash back. The software works reasonably well and is comparable to others. What I really don’t like is how you have to install the software. It seems like I am back in the 90’s with installers and after it installs it looks for an update and then installs again. Each time requiring a reboot. Seems like a ridiculous about of wasted time. Then after I have already filed it wants to update again. Really, cause I hope whatever you updated didn’t negatively effect my taxes. The worst is after paying for the state software, it won’t even compute my underpayment penalty. I might as well just write my own numbers into a fillable form.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been using this software for many years, but it finally failed me! Minutes after I transmitted my return to the IRS, they quickly rejected it, with some kind of error message that my adjusted gross income for last year was screwed up? I have no idea how this happened, and the associated report doesn't give me much help. In all fairness, it could be a problem at the IRS office, but I suspect the HR block software is at fault. All I know is that I bought the software, followed all the instructions like I usually do, the software said it was a clean return, and the IRS rejected it. Big disappointment.
