As usual, the 2021 Deluxe version worked great for me for the 1040. However, I was unable to file electronically for Massachusetts because Block seems to think I should have the TID for both my secondary insurance and MEDICARE! Seriously? Talked with the state tax folks and they said only needed my Medicare # and insurance #, not TID. SO , had to file state Via snail mail, which means delay in refund.
We’ve used H&R Block’s Mac software since the 2007 filing season and didn’t have problems until the new 2021 edition. The software crashed repeatedly and rarely found the right save state after relaunch. The crashes — more than a dozen — added literal hours to the process compared to past years. A painful experience.
In process print options would not print IRS format forms but would only print "NOT FOR FILING" version, ignoring the options selected. Had to call up forms then select individual forms from list and print them one form at a time. A royal pain. Navigation and selection between state and federal forms is awkward and clumsy.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
The interview for Form 8812 leaves something to be desired, it's not as complete as it should be. maybe there is an update coming for it but as it stands it needs work.
Have been buying H&R Bock software for several year and handles taxes OK, but this year it does not print well on my Brother HL-2170W in that it enlarge pages by 4 and only prints upper left hand corner
Significant drop in software stability in the mac osx version; frequently crashed when the “next” button was pressed, leading to much frustration and re-entry of data
