Your tax software has become hard to follow an is fraught with bad sentence structures and omissions that I needed to download forms and instructios from both federal and state to sort out. Significant ommision example: From a NYS exception for underpayment...
Your query:
You or [spouse name] retired or became disabled in 2020 or 2021, or became disabled...
The state instruction states: "5) you retired in 2020 or 2021 after reaching the age of 62, or you became disabled, and the underpayment was due to reasonable cause and not to willful neglect."
I moved last year, and that caused a problem. The state portion of the software refused to help with a part year return. That information was not stated before I purchased the product. the federal part of the software worked OK but did not provide the information you get with Turbo Tax. So three stars only.
I buy it late in the year and start entering what information I have, and then keep updating my input as I receive 1099s and the like. I keep up with the online updates from Block, too. Saves a crunch at the end. Both Block and I have this down to a system. Works well. No need to go to another brand of software, that's for sure.
I received 3 1099-K's No where in your software did it tell me how to deal with that. You need to add a section that tells your users how to complete Form C and claim the difference of what the 1099-K shows and what you actually received in your bank account.
When filing a return for someone who qualifies income wise to be in a no tax status, the program does not allow you to go forward when there are no deductions as well. Forcing you to not be able to efile the Federal return.
