Gets the job done

Have been using the H&R Block Deluxe software for a few years now and it has always done exactly what it needs to do. Overall, the process for stepping through the various areas work well. Only pet peeves. 1) It needs to do more to incorporate crypto. I said "yes" to the question about having had gains, but after that, there were no prompts or guidance about where to note these gains (Google gave me the answer). 2) The option to file a state return electronically shouldn't cost as much as it does.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have used H&R Block interchangeably with turbo tax for ten or more years and this years experience has put turbo tax in the rear view mirror. Turbotax is much easier to use and a better value as well.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

no Chase import, poor .txf handling, failed e-file
on April 10, 2022
Posted by: hrblocksugz
- does not support importing from (JP Morgan) Chase - had to download .csv, convert to .txf, ...
- even then it didn't import the .txf correctly, I had to type in buy and sell dates for all transactions
- didn't allow me to e-file because I claimed Foreign Tax Credit on ordinary income - said that column (p) means I cannot e-file. that's a bug. TurboTax has no issues filing with FTC.
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

not so great...

too many ambiguous and unclear words/statements/instructions : produced erroneous results ;
had to re-file an amended e-file return - was getting a nice refund but that changed into oweing IRS money..??!! ;
you need to have a very good understanding of taxes and terminology to get thru this correctly...
my taxes were not very complicated either : will not be using this program next year.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great value, with caveat for Arizona users
on April 9, 2022

Overall, H&R Block makes doing your taxes on your own fairly straightforward (there is a bit of a learning curve and occasional research outside the program may be needed). For those living in the state of Arizona, there is a downside -- you cannot file your state return electronically if you have donated to a Qualifying Foster Care Organizations (QFCO) and wish to claim the tax credit. This is a common tax credit for which Arizonan's frequently receive mail solicitations.
I would recommend this to a friend!
