Good and bad

I downloaded the software uneventfully. I opened it up and it was up to date. Then I tried to use it. The fonts were gray and small. When I enlarged the fonts (ctrl +), part of the font went out of view and I couldn't shift them back into view until returned the fonts back to their original size. There was plenty of room on the computer screen, but I could not adjust the enlarged fonts to utilize the additional screen space. I was sure that tech support would tell me what to do. They might have helped but I could not get through to them. Therefore, I muddled through. I just hope the hidden information was not essential.
However, when I e-filed my return it was accepted by the IRS in less than an hour. The software seemed to be thorough and complete. Other than the difficulty that I had with the fonts and tech support, the software was great.
I RECOMMEND THIS SOFTWARE IF AND ONLY IF THE FONT ISSUE IS CORRECTED.

Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

My expeience with H&R

It nay be the last year in which I do my own taxes, I'm getting on in years and it seem to get harder to keep track of everything
Cons: Time consuming

- Per the filing instructions given, Michigan return requires form 4884 and 4973 (pension schedule), but they are not included in the "official return". Michigan 1040 instructions say, based on my birthdate and age, 4884 is not required. Very confusing. Furthermore, if it were needed, only page one of form 4884 is filled in. Why, since all the needed inputs are available in the program. Also, all the federal schedules required by Michigan are not included in the instructions.
- Some Federal inputs are not carried over to the state program. User has to input the same information twice.
- Explanations of some required inputs are not clear.
- Recommended only because it is much lower cost than Turbo Tax.

It is a good product. I wish it had better interface with the mouse wheel which was zero. I had to drag down to get the page bottom. Copy all old assets was little confusing when using download the current assets. Can't figure out to delete the old? The user interface could be little better. Since I'm a software engineer, I see the short comings in the little detailsl

The H&R Block downloaded software did exactly what I needed to let me quickly go through all of the details for federal and state tax return submission. The questions were clear and each one had backup information & links if I needed more explanations.

Could this be any better?

I have been using the Deluxe version some 10 years now and am still delighted. It could not be any easier to use even for a semi literate computer know nothing like myself. I love the way it fills in info from last year. Incidently, you must be on the same computer for this to work or have transferred the file to your new computer. Electronic filing is also ez with the program. You can file your state with it too. It's free filing included in the cost of the program.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents

The process that handles RMD is confusing this tax year and past tax years. TurboTax does a much better job.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Fast
