I have a family member who does my taxes, but he always uses the H&R Block app to do that with. He works in IT for his company, so he feels it’s a safe and reliable product.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
We’ve used the software for at least a decade with no issues. Until 2021. Doing our taxes for 2021, we had multiple pop-up errors of scripts failing, values randomly changed in our W-2 forms, and then confusion for HSA instructions that caused us to put in a value which led to a negative contribution value in the underlying form that the checks in the software did not note. That led to an IRS rejection, and a couple of hours going line by line through the underlying forms to find the error. If 2021 had been the first time I had used the software, I would’ve said it was a very poor product and badly supported. I’m going to have to think hard about 2022.
Incorrectly prepared my taxes by saying I was eligible for something I was not and wouldn't let me change it. Caused IRS to send me a letter adjusting my taxes because H&R was WRONG! And no, the issue was not due to my error. It was all them.
Usually pretty easy to follow. This year's was a bit more of a challenge with the stimulus check issue. It was not clear enough in my opinion. Also, there needs to be connectivity with more major brokerage houses. That being said, I would have rated it higher for the general ease of use and the year over year memory if it weren't for thise items. They had a major impact on the ease of use this year.
The H&R Deluxe Tax Software is so user friendly and forgiving. I have been using it for over a decade now and have never been disappointed, it’s also a good price for the value.
