I followed the instructions to a the letter. Filed my taxes and was paitintly waiting for my tax return of +$4k. It never came, so called the IRS. They said my tax return was calculated incorrectly and that they made adjustments and now I owe them $1408 and I would be receiving a letter in the mail. About a week later the letter arrived starting that the child tax credits were at fault for the miscalculation by the software. I went back and reviewed everything again in the software and all of my entries are correct and match the tax documents that I received, but on the actual 1040 form the software filed, the numbers are different.
I had a problem with a person who insisted she could fix a programming error that I found with the software - 90 minutes later with the lady and 2 more persons before it was properly addressed. While she was supposedly fixing the problem she told me her life story. I did not appreciate my time being wasted and listening to the lady's issues. I waited a week and the issue was still not reprogrammed. I finally just manually fixed the problem, wrote a check for what I owed, printed off the forms and mailed to the state.
Since I have to use a magnifier that follows the mouse pointer, entering the form 1099 data can be tricky. The fix is very simple, shade the background of every other row or enter a string of dots to connect the title on the left to the box on the right.
