The 2021 tax deluxe tax package was the first that failed me. There was a glitch that gave me an error in final checking and would not allow me to file the state return electronically. By NYS law an efiled federal return mandated an efile NY state return. Repeated efforts to reconcile the problem failed. I printed the error messages, stapled them to the NY State printed version, and mailed it. Fortunately, it was accepted. I have used HRB for many years with minimal problems and it has served me well.

I have been using H&R Block Deluxe software for a few years now. It has done a fairly good job. Only downside is that I found a deduction I should have been taking for a couple years that the software didn't prompt me for.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

I've used H&R Block software for many years and found it to be adequate for what I need. We've gone from my being employed and my wife running a small business to selling a home and retiring, and it work well for all cases. You can follow the interview or jump around to enter values. It automatically carries forward data from the previous years. A quirk is that state deductions are pulled from your federal itemized deductions, so you have to fill in the federal ones even if you know you won't itemize on federal. Also, getting help on specific lines could definitely be improved.
