Filing my taxes was a waste of time and painful.

The software works fine. I have been using it for several years without a problem until this year. I got to the point where I was ready to file my tax returns when I ran into problems. First it would not file my taxes until it did an update which failed repeatedly. I had to get tech support involved, which kept me on hold for about an hour before I was able to talk to a human. The end result was to give me a link to download the update file (actually a whole new installation) which I then had to run manually. Next came the state taxes. The new software was claiming I needed to pay for the state add-on even though the Deluxe version I purchased was supposed to include the state software. (The file name on the newly downloaded version even indicated it was Federal + State!) Another long wait on the phone and another manual download and install. It is a good thing I did not wait until the last minute to file!
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Well done software which allows one to deal with most situations. Priced fairly. One can find one's way around, go back to make changes, and when desired can just follow the guide system. No mystery around the software, one can just get it done.

Easy to use. Importing last year's return made it especially easy. Input went quickly. Federal and state refunds were not disputed, so that I received the refunds that H&R Block calculated. Suggested improvement: enable users to upload their donations via file using a common file format, such as .csv or .xlsx. I am not going to use Quicken!

I've used this for decades - I really think its time for a design overhaul.
Can't you make some usage improvements. Hard to navigate, Hard to find & goto sections already completed once. Boring entry screens.

H&R Block 2021 Deluxe ran poorly with Mac OS [much worse than last year's version]. It required almost continuous updates, many of which would not install, which blocked any attempt at filing. This edition included a state return, but the software would not recognize it, so I had to purchase a second one. Once it ran the software seemed thorough and accurate. I will use a different tax software next year.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Hard to prepare

There is a bug in the program. Under contributions the program does not allow add another item in DeductionPro as it did in previous years.
